Halloween with the Bakers

While this photo doesn't quite show Wyatt's excitement, Halloween with the Bakers was a complete success. We had two small Indians at our house ready to collect some serious loot. And afterwards, we had to sort through the aforementioned loot (allowing Aunt Abby to get her hands on some of her nephews' candy). More pics on this web album.

The Station

It is funny how sometimes one part of your life can intersect another portion of your life. All the while you thought both portions of your life were silo'd or completely independent of one another. Just this afternoon I was reading an article about photography and how little the camera matters. In that article the author linked to a story titled "The Station" by Robert J. Hastings.

Over the past six or eight months I've found my mind wander to this very topic. The conclusion I've come to was the same as the author did as well. The journey is so much more important than the destination. In fact the destination matters very little. You may reach the destination. you may not, shoot, the destination may change greatly, however the common thread is the journey. Along the journey you will have opportunities to interact with and impact people, the destination is the culmination of those interactions.

Night Shots in Columbus

With his wife out of town, Abigail's coworker Mike had a free evening and asked me if I wanted to head downtown for some night photography. He had a tripod that we used extensively. I did not, but made use of ledges, cellphones and wallets to prop my camera up to get the shot.

I played a lot with shutter speed this outing with varying degrees of success…

Both of these photos were taken here.

We then moved down towards the river just north of the Broad Street Bridge…

This is the same AEP building in the previous shot, just a different side of it.

The next two shots I caught a train going across the bridge, set my shutter speed to 30 seconds and let it go. The second shot shows the end of the train. It is interesting how much light was let in on that shot.

We then moved towards COSI and the Town Street Bridge…

Finally, we moved to the Short North and took some shots there. I don't feel like I captured anything too interesting there. I did learn that night shooting it is so much better with a tripod.

I'm fairly proud of this shot, no tripod, shutter speed at 30s, I've got a steady hand!

Sign up for email updates!

Ever thought it would be handy to get an email of our posts instead of checking this website every now and again? If so, then I've got a solution for you!

Over to the right side of this page is a new box titled "Get email updates of this blog". Enter your email address there and it will send you a confirmation email to make sure you own that email address (for whatever reason, this took a little while the first time I did this). After you confirm your address, whenever I post to this blog, you'll get an email with the complete contents (pictures and all) of our posts!

Each email that is sent will provide you with an opportunity to unsubscribe, however I don't personally envision anyone using that!

If you've got a lot of blogs you read, you could always use some of the more popular news aggregators (Google Reader, Bloglines, Yahoo! Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird all work well). These will let you know when any of the blogs are updated by going to just one site.

Finally, you may be curious how this is done. There is a website called feedburner which adds value to your blog (advertising, stats etc). Feedburner (now owned by Google) provides the email blasting capabilities.

Dr. Em: I'm taking you off the ghetto blogspam set-up I had for you, go ahead and sign up over to the right.

Dogs & Little Boys

Mom was in town for a math conference so we had the Bakers over for dinner last evening. The x-factor in this event was the fact that Mom brought her Portuguese Water Dog with her, Madison.

The fact is, Wyatt isn't all that pumped about dogs. Technically, he loves the large black lab at his sitter's, Sammy. Any canine other than Sammy though, Wyatt finds for the most part terrifying.

Cue Madison.

Wilson started off playing with Madison…

Wyatt didn't know quite what to make of the situation…

So he played with my grilling gloves to pass the time.

But then he decided that ol' Madison wasn't nearly as ferocious as he thought she was, so he spent some time throwing the ball with her. It got a bit touch and go when she would drop the ball after retrieving it but wouldn't give Wyatt enough clearance to grab the ball#8230;

But Wyatt even went so far as calling for Madison and patting his hands against his thighs.

By the end of the evening, Madison found herself a rawhide and gave that some attention.

Wyatt however decided to revert back to being terrified. He wouldn't even chance getting down on the floor, instead he wanted someone to pick him up off the couch.

The full pictures from the evening are on this webalbum.

New Camera

Well, after a nearly a six month process we finally settled on a new camera. We ended up with the Nikon D40.

Hopefully this will end up in better pics for all, particularly the little one, we'll see. So far we love it, however "so far" is about 25 hours :)

Its feature set is slightly daunting , but I have confidence that the engineer in both of us will work at figuring it out.

Empathy Belly

The childbirth instructor tonight had an empathy belly. So I decided to humor Abigail (and myself) and try it on…

Tying my shoes was challenging, I was afraid I was going to rip my jeans…

Real belly with psuedo belly…

And that wraps up childbirth class. I suppose we're ready to give birth now. Right.

Tailgating pics

We're in the market for a new camera before the baby comes. Tonight we decided to test drive a Canon PowerShot camera (thanks Dave). So we decided to take extra pics at tailgating tonight to see if we liked it.

The girls enjoying their cheesesteaks…

Wyatt decided that it was time to tickle "bebe". He thought this was fantastic, Wilson played along very well.

We also decided to play with the movie feature of the camera, this little gem is for his aunt Emily…

All the pics from are in this web album, including one that makes me look, well slightly effeminate.

Shower Pictures

Abigail's shower was Saturday, it went off with great success. All the pictures can be seen on this web album

As you might have guessed, cupcakes were for dessert. Wyatt seemed to enjoy them.

5 1/2 Weeks left!

Below is a recent pic of Abigail & the baby. 5 1/2 weeks left, and we cannot wait!

According to most averages, the baby is 5lbs
at this point.
