M == Frequent deposit (5.5 million)
q == The frequency of M (for example 12, for a deposit each month, I used 1)
i == Interest rate (.0005)
n == number of years (80)
P == Principle (population)

Fun with Social Security Numbers

Emmaline got her social security number the other day and that sparked a conversation about these fun little numbers at dinner one night, so I thought I'd look into it, turns out at ssa.gov there is all sorts of social security information available.

• Social security numbers are not reused, once a person is issued it, that number will never be used again.
• There are about 305 million people in the United States, and about 420 million social security numbers already used. So already about 115 million numbers have been retired, so to speak.
• They issue about 5.5 million new numbers each year.
• The numbers do have some meaning, mostly just the first three can tell you what state you were born in.

There is enough 'space' in the social security number schema for just shy of 1 billion numbers.
assuming that population increases at say .05% a year, and that 5.5 million number above holds true, we'll run out of social security numbers sometime around 2088!

Happy Thanksgiving 2007

Thanksgiving was quite a success this year. Thursday the three of us went to Piqua with some trepidation on how it would all work. It was the first time we have ventured out of northern Columbus. But everything went well and we all enjoyed the day!

On Friday we had the Humphreys/Lavey crew down for Thanksgiving dinner. Ended up with two turkeys, one brined and the other on the spit. They both turned out great, but the brined one (which I also cooked breast side down for the first couple hours) was a major success. The breast meat was very moist and the dark meat was fully cooked, which is quite a challenge to get both done and not be reaching for more gravy every time you take a bite of white meat!

At any rate here are pics from the Zechman party and some from the Humphreys party.

Emmaline, more than just an average baby?

Below are some new pictures of Emmaline. We determined that when she is upset sometimes she enjoys laying on her side or on her belly altogether. Witnessed below...

The doctor measured her at 8lbs even and still at 20" long. Her height, weight and head circumference were all at 50 percentile, so by the numbers, she's average ;)

Pictures of Mom

So far I've taken quite a few pictures of our new daughter, but there has been some unrest about how few of those pictures include the new mom. Well, as a stopgap measure I'll link to our friend Emily's blog for some very recent pictures of Abigail & Emmaline (last night). That should satisfy you ( I'm talking to you Melinda & Kim) for a little bit until we get some more pictures out.

Emmaline 130 hours old

It occurred to me that you know how old a baby is by the label you use:

• Hours
• Days
• Weeks
• Months

People don't really listen to the number in front of these labels, they just listen for the label. By the time a baby is old enough to no longer label their age in months, the child is getting out of the baby stage altogether.

So currently Emmaline is about 135 hours old, I think it is time to transition to the "Days" label.



So here are some photos of her at 130 hours old, including one great one of her yawning.

Emmaline's Visitors

Been a while since I was able to post last. Emmaline is now almost 4 days old, and I cannot believe how much she has changed in those 96 hours. I've posted some new pictures, for those of us that aren't family they may not be that interesting, but there are some photos in there of just Emmaline.

Baby and Mom are doing so very well. The delay in picture posting was due to us still trying to figure everything out around us, not to mention being a bit tired :)

Emmaline Grace Humphreys -- Born

Emmaline Grace Humphreys -- Born 11/6/7 at 23:37. Seven pounds thirteen ounces. Twenty inches long!

(Fixed birth date, apparently at 3:22 AM, I wasn't all that sharp)

16 and a half hours of labor and still no baby. About an hour ago ab finally had all she could take and got and epidural. She is almost asleep now, but after her snooze the baby won't be far off. She is nine cm and 100 percent effaced. More later, hopefully with some pics!
